I’m sure there are bugs, in addition to a number of features I want to add, but it was time to set it free and get it out there. So here it is, warts cute little moles and all.
So let me know what you think. The best way to give me feedback is on twitter:

Fixed a bug with enter key in input fields
As pointed out to me (thanks @aloomens), there was a rather serious bug where pressing the Enter key in input fields would do something unfortunate like deleting a line.
I have disabled that now—hitting Enter does nothing. I may change Enter to do something more convenient in the future but at least for now it does no evil.

CloudedInSong: Working Out Browser Differences

I definitely empathize with people who work on Web design on a regular basis. It is more than a little heartbreaking to finally get a challenging bit of CSS layout working and then have it break in some random and sometimes catastrophic way when you try the same code in another browser (like having a block shift about a mile down the page.)
Even in 2010, browsers can vary in subtle and not-so-subtle ways in terms of padding, positioning, mouse event handling and various other things I won’t bore you with.
The CloudedInSong app depends heavily on some orderly layout, and will also depend on a lot of JavaScript when all is said and done. This could be a recipe for cross-browser disaster, but with a little care, and a lot of Googling, I’m pleased to say the app is now getting well-behaved across the two major browsers: Firefox and IE.

Making good progress

The initial version of my web site: CloudedInSong, “A tool for songwriters”™* is taking longer than I expected, but I have resolved some technical issues and I am now making some decent progress. I hope to have the site open and functional by the end of this month if not sooner. Even then will be a basic version, but you have to start somewhere.
Stay tuned for more upcoming news.
*I’m kidding about the trademark. Apple probably already owns it.
